3,000 Tesla Powerwalls And 256 Megapacks As Power Plant

As rumors around Tesla Inc. calm down gradually, the company does not loosen its manufacturing workflow. The demand and interest around its production are constant and intense, as always. Moreover, it gets new upgrades as well as new grounds for expansion.

In A New Project 

One of the most vivid examples of such development is the recent announcement of an energy transformation company Green Mountain Power. The latter declared about a new project of Tesla Powerwall installation, which comes to facilitate numerous energy issues. The project is called Frequency Regulation Pilot Program, which aims at creating a flexible ground for customers to share stored power with the local grid operator. This method will ensure a steady and uninterrupted energy provision for an entire region. Using a network of Tesla Powerwall batteries, this innovative solution will ultimately solve the problem with unexpected power-offs for hundreds of consumers. The program involves 200 customers who already have two residential power backup devices. Above all the comfort this project can result in, it is also a good chance to fight a big fight for a carbon-free environment and greenhouse effect reduction. The logic is simple; some residents have stored energy at their disposal, while others are suffering the inconvenience of permanent power outages. As Tesla Powerwall Capacities allow, why not share this extra energy with others? Three-months testing showed successful results, and GMP plans to expand this pilot program even further. With the network of energy storage devices available, the project owners ensure that all the customers will have power backup whenever an unexpected outage occurs. Since the cost of Tesla Powerwall tends to increase, it would be most profitable for Green Mountain Power to expand its partnership with Tesla Inc. in the nearest future while Tesla Powerwall price is still low. 

A Few Years Ago 

Starting its projects in the scope of the first residential Powerwall pilot program in 2017, GMP has currently grown into a vast home energy storage that can provide its customers with reliable power whenever necessary. As Tesla Powerwall review claims, there are over 3,000 Tesla power storage batteries installed in residential areas in the scope of this program. This network greatly contributes to the overall cost reduction for monthly electricity bills. Thus in 2020, electricity bills for these customers were reduced by $3 million via peak reduction. Megapack 

Amid the increasing demand for Tesla residential power backup devices, the company is currently switching to lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery cells for its Megapack product. According to the analysts, this revolutionary step can result in tangible changes in the industry. Compared to Tesla Powerwall specs, this device is intended for large-scale grid energy storage. Launched in 2019, the product is comparably new. Megapack is capable of storing up to 3 megawatt-hours of power.

This device is available for storing electricity generated by alternative sources, such as wind and solar. Another mass installation was implemented with this power storage battery in 2020 by Pacific Gas and Electric Company. They installed around 256 Megapacks in Monterey Country, California. As a result, this power storage network became one of the world’s largest units, with the capacity of providing 182.5MW of power to the consumers. Unlike Tesla Powerwall cost, the price for Megapack has recently dropped; however, it still costs more than other LFP batteries. According to Reuters, Tesla is currently negotiating with Chinese EVE Energy, a lithium-ion phosphate battery production company, to add to its supply chain. If this cooperation turns into action, the costs for the Megapack will drop even more.
